360-Degree Assessment Forum
Session Description: 360 assessments have been around since the days of World War II and many organizations use them. Unfortunately, 360 tools are too often put in place without providing the infrastructure needed to support their use, such as training individualism how to provide and how to interpret feedback, or embedding them appropriately in the organization’s development/evaluation processes. The speakers in this forum will describe leading-edge practices in in this arena.

Ronald Page, Ph.D., President of Assessment Associates International
Ron Page has worked for the past 30 years in developing and implementing innovative human resource programs. Focusing on employee and organizational effectiveness, he has extensive experience in competency modeling and job analysis, selection system design and validation, individual assessment, performance management, job evaluation, 360º assessment, career planning, and leadership development. He has held senior HR roles at the State of Minnesota, Control Data Corporation, Hay Management Consultants, Saville & Holdsworth Ltd., and Human Resource Consultants and has managed HR initiatives in North America, Europe, Asia, and Africa. Dr. Page has authored over 40 papers, articles, book chapters, and presentations on various human resource topics and was a recipient of the 2004 Research Award from the Minnesota Career Development Association. He is a Licensed Psychologist (LP) and a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and has been an Adjunct Professor at the Industrial Relations Center (IRC) of the Carlson School of Management (CSOM). He obtained his Ph.D. in Counseling and I-O psychology from the University of Minnesota.
Kevin J. Nilan, Ph.D., Measurement Systems Manager-APAC att 3M
Kevin Nilan works in 3M’s HR Measurement Center of Expertise. Presently he manages the assessment work done in 3M subsidiaries outside of the United States. During calendar 2013 he was assigned to work in 3M Singapore where he focused on measurement challenges in the Asia-Pacific Area. He is also working actively on employee retention, again focusing on subsidiaries outside of the US. Nilan has been with 3M for 26 years, having worked in the Measurement department most of those years. During his career, Nilan has worked on 3M pre-hire selection systems, employee surveys, 360 processes, and employee development as well as the global 3M performance management system. Prior to joining 3M, Nilan worked as vice president and partner at MDA Leadership Consulting. Kevin completed his Ph.D. in industrial/organizational psychology under the direction of Milton Hakel at The Ohio State University. While at Ohio State he co-chaired the First Annual Graduate Student Conference in Industrial Organizational Psychology and Organizational Behavior in 1980. Along a similar path, Kevin partnered with Ron Page and a few colleagues in the late 1990’s to re-energize and re-launch the Twin Cities applied psychology organization, now known as MPPAW.
Mike Benson, Ph.D., Director of Leadership Development at Johnson & Johnson
Mike Benson joined J&J in 2008. In his current role, Mike is the Director, Leadership Development and part of the Global Talent Management group located at J&J World Headquarters in New Brunswick, NJ. The Global Talent Management organization focuses on delivering a robust and diverse leadership pipeline to achieve the strategic business imperatives and provide a catalyst for change/innovation. His current responsibilities focus on emerging leaders across the enterprise with an emphasis on Business Unit Leader and Research & Development critical talent pools. Additionally, he leads the enterprise-wide team responsible for developing/deploying J&J’s new leadership model, and all of the supporting tools/resources. Prior to joining J&J, Mike worked for Personnel Decisions International and spent 12 years as a military officer in the United States Air Force. His experience focuses on leadership skills/traits, leadership development, integrated talent management, and organizational performance. Mike has a Ph.D. in I-O psychology from the University of Minnesota and an MBA from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
Jane B. (Brodie) Gregory, Ph.D., Senior Consultant at PDRI, a CEB Company
Dr. Gregory’s work focuses on leadership development, motivation, and performance management, with a particular emphasis on coaching and feedback. Brodie completed her graduate work at The University of Akron, a top-ten doctoral program for Industrial/Organizational Psychology, under the supervision of Paul Levy. Prior to joining PDRI, Brodie was a Manager of Global Leadership Development with Procter and Gamble, and previously worked in Global Talent Management with The Timken Company and did a stint as a visiting faculty member at her undergraduate almamater, Washington and Lee University. Her research has appeared in a number of publications, including Consulting Psychology: Practice & Research, Industrial and Organizational Psychology: Perspectives on Research and Practice, and The Journal of Organizational Behavior. She is active with SIOP, The Society of Consulting Psychology, and the Institute of Coaching at Harvard Medical School. Brodie and Paul Levy are currently co-authoring a book on using feedback in consulting – the first in an APA series for consulting psychologists.
